I enjoyed this mystery suspense story that has many twists and turns. There is an interesting cast of characters, secrets, lies, revenge, and plenty of angst. Vanessa White has had a hard life, with no real childhood, and then for the last two years, she has had an unknown benefactor, paying her rent and needs. When her rent is not being paid, her landlord throws her out but gives her an address to go to, and that spins this tale into motion.Nathaniel Crow has his demons and guilt. He has been taking care of Vanessa White for the past two years, after finally finding the missing girl. But she is in danger, and he must stay away in hopes of keeping her safe. But when his payments for rent don’t make it to her landlord, something must change to protect her. He runs a school that trains young ladies to be little wives. Now he will have to hide Vanessa as a student in plain sight.
Vanessa White goes from a hard life to being taken care of and back to being tossed out of her home. Sent to a school is confusing, and then she is to become a student. Mr. Crow, the headmaster, demands her obedience, and little Vanessa submits to his every command. This will be her journey into a DD/lg relationship of D/s.
The plot has plenty of unknown mystery that will play out over time. Secrets will come to light, lies will surface, nefarious intent will unfold, and a life and death situations will open the door to trust. The story has explicit sex scenes, exhibition, and humiliation with mild age play. There are multiple punishments, including caning.

Historical romances were my go to genre many years ago until I came across erotic romances and BDSM (dark romances) genres. It feels so long ago that when I found Little Conspiracy by Lucy Wild that reunites erotic, BDSM and historical genres, I was instantly curious to find out how it would be possible. The story about Vanessa, a young woman on her own in London, has a benefactor with a secret on why he's helping her, paying for all her desires until she's thrown out on the streets. Meeting Nathaniel, she decides to stay at a school that would allow her to relive her childhood while learning the joys and pleasures of being a woman and a little.

There is no doubt that this is absolutely a stimulating read - the kind of novel that will make you look at schools for young women in a new light, and make you wonder just how often all those toys we often see in specialty adults stores were used in centuries past. Mr Crow (Nathaniel) and Vanessa were a duo that I often wondered how they could work out together but as the story unfolded, it became a bit clearer. I did however wonder - if Vanessa was truly a virgin, and never had intimate relations, how is it that with the nurse or Mr Crow was she without reservations? That is, of course, considering the mindset of women in history. That being said, I still enjoyed the story and do look forward to more from Lucy Wild.

I enjoyed this book about Vanessa and her mysterious benefactor. The suspense regarding the danger that Vanessa was unknowingly in kept the pages turning until the end. I loved Vanessa's character and how naturally submissive she was. I liked the premise of the character of Nathaniel Crow but he was flawed. I didn't like the way he humiliated Vanessa in public to help her overcome her shyness. He seemed to have a consistent inability to communicate with Vanessa, which is unlikely for someone of his background. He also did nothing to protect Vanessa other than bring her to the school. In general there were aspects of the plot that didn't add up, but the book was enjoyable nonetheless. I especially liked how the school for littles was a normal part of society rather than a big secret like in most books. It was refreshing to read about a woman who embraced the life of a little so readily. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Overall I really enjoyed the book. I like Vanessa and the headmaster. There was a bit of mystery and a lot of romance with jealous fits, running away, etc. to create story that engaging. However, it's not as much of an age-play novel as others I've read, it has elements of age play rather than being a full age-play novel. While this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story, it is something to consider when deciding whether to read the book. A good book for those who are curious about what age play novels are about without much of the more hard-core elements found in other books.
POTENTIAL SPOILER - (I tried to keep the language vague enough not to be a spoiler but this does give a bit of the plot) However, the one thing that seemed a bit awkward was the bad guy of the story. He seemed to work in the story to an extent but not completely. Particularly at one point where it appears that Vanessa might want to believe him but he's not really done anything up to that point to truly warrant her belief in him. Fortunately, this particular incident doesn't take up a great deal of the plot but it was something that stood out for me.

Little Conspiracy is a very well written short story. I enjoyed the story line of Vanessa going to Nathaniels "little" school...he's also her secret benefactor, older and dominant. If you like DD/lg stories, this is a great one to pick up!
